Character Creation
Once you return to the Character Selection screen, click the "Create New Character" button to bring the Character Creation screen up again. Then, click the "More Info" button.
- These buttons will allow you to choose what gender you want your character to be. It doesn't make a difference in terms of gameplay, so choose whichever gender appeals to you.
- This part of the first Character Creation screen is where you select from the races that are available to play in WoW. All but one of the races are divided into the two playable Factions: the Alliance, and the Horde. The Alliance races include Humans, Dwarves, Night Elves, Gnomes, Draenei, and Worgen. The Horde races include Orcs, Undead, Tauren, Trolls, Blood Elves, and Goblins. In addition, there is a selection button for WoW's newest playable race, the Pandaren, which begin the game as neutral (you choose your Pandaren's faction later). For the purpose of following this guide, choose Human as your race. You'll have plenty of opportunity to try the other Alliance races as well as the Horde races once you've got a good grasp on how the game works.
- This window shows a description of your character's Race, along with any gameplay bonuses that race receives.
- This is a representation of what your character might look like later in the game, once you've collected high level weapons and armor.
- This window shows a description of your character's chosen Class.
- These buttons let you select which Class you want your character to be. Not all Classes are available to every race; for example, Humans can't be Shamans or Druids, and Tauren can't be Mages. For the purpose of following this guide, you should select Warrior as your first Character's Class, because it's a fairly simple & straightforward Class to learn, and Warriors can take a great deal of punishment in combat. *An important note about one of the Character Classes: The Death Knight is a Hero Class (it begins the game at Level 55, and has its own separate starting area, regardless of what race you choose). While it might be tempting to jump into a character that starts at an advanced Level, you should resist the urge to create a Death Knight character until you're more experienced with the game.
- These controls allow you to select different aspects of your Character's physical appearance that you can customize, including aspects such as skin color, facial features, hair style and color, facial hair, etc.
- These panels show preview images of the options within each aspect of your Character's appearance.
- Type your Character's name in this box. It's important to note that while you have a lot of leeway when choosing your character's name, you do have some limits, especially if you play on a RP or RPPvP Realm. Character names which contain vulgar, racist, or homophobic language are obviously unacceptable, but it's also against the rules to name Characters after established characters from the Warcraft franchise or trademarked characters from other works of fiction (for a complete explanation of Blizzard's World of Warcraft Naming Policy, check out this support page. If you can't decide on a name, or if all the names you want seem to be unavailable, try clicking the "Randomize" button to randomly generate names until you see one you like. You could also consult this webpage for hints on how to create a good "fantasy-sounding" name for your Character.
Whenever you're satisfied with the way your Character is designed and named, click the "Finish" button to finalize it and go to the Character Selection screen.
_ Whenever you're ready, click the "Enter World" button.
Once the game loads, you'll see an in-game cinematic which briefly tells Humanity's
story in WoW. After the
cinematic ends, you'll find your
character standing in front of Northshire Abbey, in the Northshire
Valley area of the Human starting zone
Elwynn Forest.
