Player Death
_
As you play WoW, sooner or later a fight will not go as well as you'd like, and
your Character will die.
When this happens, don't panic! Your Character
is not permanently lost, and you won't lose any XP, items, or money, either.
When you die, you'll see a small window appear in the top middle of your screen
that looks like this:
_ Click on the "Release Spirit" button
to release your Character's ghost from its corpse. You could also wait a few
minutes for your ghost to be released automatically, but you want to get back
into the action as quickly as possible, right? Once your ghost is released,
your gameplay screen will look like this:
_
Your Character is now in the spirit world, at a Graveyard
near the location where you were killed. You have several options for coming
back to life:
- Speak to the Spirit Healer NPC (the ghostly angelic figure in front of you). You will see a window telling you that you can find your corpse and resurrect at that location, or you can have the Spirit Healer resurrect you there at the Graveyard. Characters under Level 10 can resurrect through the Spirit Healer with no penalty, but anyone over Level 10 will suffer serious damage to all their armor and weapons, as well as a disease called Resurrection Sickness that temporarily reduces their Attributes and combat statistics by a large degree (these penalties get progressively worse the higher level a Character is).
- Get a friendly Player to cast a spell that brings you back to life. The Classes which can do this include Priests, Paladins, Shamans, and Druids. This will most commonly only be an option if you are playing as a member of a Party (more on forming Parties in a little while).
- Simply walk in ghost form back to your corpse! If you look on your Minimap, you'll see either a tombstone icon, or a red arrow at the edge of the Minimap; this indicates your corpse's location. Walk to your corpse, and once you get close enough to resurrect, you'll see this message:
_ Check to make sure there are no enemies nearby
who will attack you as soon as you resurrect (you'll only have partial health
at first), and then click "Accept." You will immediately return to
life, with your body re-materializing at the spot where your ghost was standing
just a moment ago (as a nice little touch, a skeleton can be found at the spot
where you died). If you ever find yourself in a situation where you can't find
your corpse, or if you get your ghost stuck in an area that you can't get out
of, click the "Return to Graveyard" button so you can either try to
find your body again, or simply get the Spirit Healer to bring you back. At
this early stage, lost time is the only penalty for having to walk back to your
corpse and resurrect yourself. Later on, however, each death causes Durability
damage to your weapons and armor. If a weapon or piece of armor reaches 0
Durability, it becomes useless until it is repaired (more about repairing
equipment later).
