Your first Quest: "Beating them Back!"
_
When you right-click on Marshal McBride, you
will automatically target him (his character portrait will appear at the top of
the screen next to your own), and this dialog window will appear:
_
Click on the line in the window that says
"Beating them Back!" to read the description of your first Quest:
_
This is one of the simplest kinds of Quests you can pick up,
in which you have to kill a set number of a particular kind of Enemy NPC. As
you can see from Marshal McBride's Quest description, Blackrock Orcs have
invaded Northshire
Valley, and have set
loose Battle Worgs to attack the garrison. You need to kill 6 of the Blackrock
Battle Worgs, and then report back to Marshal McBride. If you scroll down
inside the Quest Dialogue Box, you can see that when you complete this Quest,
you will receive 50 Copper coins (the lowest denomination of currency in the
game world), 500 XP, and a pair of Worg Handler's Gloves (an armor item for
your hands) as a reward. Click the "Accept" button to accept the
Quest and close the Dialogue Box (in this early area, the game accepts Quests
for you automatically, but you should get into the habit of clicking the
"Accept" button now).
Once you've accepted the Quest, press the "L" Key on your Keyboard. This brings up your Quest Log, which lists all of your Active Quests. Right now, there's only one Quest listed--"Beating Them Back!"--but your Quest Log can hold up to 25 Active Quests at any one time. You can click on each of the Quests listed in your Quest Log, and it will bring up that Quest's description. Note that the title of your Quest is highlighted in yellow when you hold the mouse pointer over it. This color is an indicator of that Quest's difficulty relative to your current Experience Level. The color indicators and corresponding Quest difficulties are:
Press the "L" Key again to exit your Quest Log, then look up at your Minimap. You'll see that a large area of it is shaded in; this represents the general area where you'll find the Blackrock Battle Worgs that you need to kill. This is one way that the game helps you locate the enemies you need to kill or items you need to find in order to complete a Quest. Turn away from Northshire Abbey, and walk out towards the other parts of the shaded area, until you see Blackrock Battle Worgs. They should be easy to spot, because their names light up over them (this happens with Enemy NPCs that are objectives in an active Quest).

The color indicators and corresponding Quest difficulties are:
- Gray--This Quest is meant for Characters much lower in Experience than yours. They are very easy to complete alone, and award little or no XP.
- Green--This Quest is meant for Characters somewhat lower in Experience than yours. They are fairly easy to complete alone, and award less XP than Quests appropriate for your Level.
- Yellow--This Quest is meant for Characters around your own Experience Level. They might be slightly challenging to complete alone, but shouldn't give you too much trouble if you're careful.
- Orange--This Quest is meant for Characters somewhat higher in Experience than you. They award more XP than Quests at your Level, but they could be somewhat challenging to complete alone.
- Red--This Quest is meant for Characters much higher in Experience than you. They award substantially more XP than Quests at your Level, but they are extremely difficult (if not impossible) to complete alone.

_ Walk up to one of the Blackrock Battle Worgs. Before you do
anything to attack it, notice that its name is in yellow text, and it is not
actively attacking you even though you're standing right next to it. This is
because these Blackrock Battle Worgs are classified as Neutral NPCs, which
means that they won't attack you until you attack them (this is to make it a bit easier for new players to learn how to fight).
Place your mouse cursor over the Blackrock Battle Worg, and you'll see that the cursor changes from a hand to a sword; this indicates that the Worg is an NPC that you can attack. Whenever you're ready to begin combat, right click on the Blackrock Battle Worg!
Your Warrior will begin automatically attacking the Blackrock Battle Worg, and it will begin attacking in return, until one of you has died. These Worgs are relatively weak enemies, so it shouldn't be a very challenging fight. Once the Worg is dead, look at its corpse. You'll notice that sparkles are rising up from the corpse, and your mouse cursor turns to a bag when you point the mouse at it. This indicates that you can loot this corpse for money and/or items. Most enemy animals don't have any money or equipment on them (for obvious reasons), but you can still get some items from them that can be sold to a vendor. Most enemy animals can also be skinned for leather and hides if you have the Skinning profession skill (more on that later).
A note about looting corpses: In situations where you've had a prolonged fight & killed multiple enemies, you don't need to go around to each body to loot it. Looting one corpse will pull the loot from all surrounding corpses of the same enemy type within a certain range.
You should now be able to see this display on the right side of your screen:

objectives, and how many enemies you need to kill, items you need to collect,
or actions you need to perform before that Quest is considered complete.

Notice how the Resource bar under your Health meter has
partially filled up with a red color? That's because your Warrior has
accumulated its Resource, which is called "Rage." A Warrior accumulates
Rage very simply--by attacking enemies with the normal auto-attack. Once you've built up Rage for your
Warrior, you can use special attacks to do extra damage to enemies. Right now,
you only have one special attack--Heroic Strike--which should be located in slot 2 on
your main Action Bar.
Now, go on to the next Blackrock Battle Worg. Your Rage meter may have dropped back down to zero by this time; if it has, start the next fight by using your normal auto-attack (right-click on the Worg). Once you've built up some Rage, however, try using Strike by right-clicking on it in your Action Bar, or pressing the "2" Key on your keyboard. You'll see that it causes more damage than the normal auto-attack. Keep killing Blackrock Battle Worgs (and looting their corpses) until you see this on the right side of the screen:

This indicates that you have completed all
objectives of this Quest, and you can return to Marshal McBride for your
reward. Before you do, though, look down at your XP Bar. It should look
something like this:
_
Notice how it's filled most of the way up with a purple
color? This indicates how many XP you've gained from killing those Blackrock
Battle Worgs, as well as the total number of XP (400) you have to gain in order
to rise to the next Experience Level. Remember how part of this Quest's reward
was that you'd gain 500 XP? This means that as soon as you turn in this Quest
to Marshal McBride, you will advance to Level 2, and you'll also immediately
progress part of the way to Level 3! Now, walk back to Marshal McBride.
When you look at Marshal McBride now, you'll see that he has a yellow question mark over his head instead of a yellow exclamation point. This indicator means that a Quest Giver NPC is ready for you to turn in a Quest that they gave you. Right-click on Marshal McBride to bring up his dialog window, and click on "Beating Them Back" next to the yellow question mark. Read the dialogue you see in the next window, and then click "Complete Quest" to turn the Quest in. You'll receive your money and equipment rewards, as well as your XP, which as mentioned a moment ago will advance you to Level 2 and add a good deal of XP toward advancing to Level 3. When you advance to a new Level, several things will happen all at once:

- A bright gold light will flash around your character
- You
will see notifications in the main area of the screen and in your chat
window congratulating you on your new Level, and describing any new
abilities you have learned
- Your Character's maximum Health and several combat statistics will increase by a certain amount
- A distinctive gong-like sound will play, hence a phrase that is common among players--"dinging" a new Level.
